“Serious music by seriously talented musicians in a show that doesn't take itself seriously at all” (CBC). ★★★★★
Fruit Flies Like a Banana, an award-winning neo-vaudeville performance by the musicians/actors/dancers of The Fourth Wall, has become a perennial favorite among Fringe Theatre Festival audiences and critics across North America. This season’s installment, Fruit Flies Like a Banana: WORLD TOUR, is a madcap trip around the globe, with each piece inspired by a different locale and an itinerary chosen by the audience. The Massachusetts-based ensemble will make its Off-Broadway debut with the show at the SoHo Playhouse in October, rounding out a coast-to- coast tour which included the Orlando, Winnipeg, Minnesota, and Edmonton Fringe Festivals.
Rather than rest on its laurels, the ensemble is returning home to launch a new performance series, called The Fourth Wall Presents…. Monthly performances at venues in the Greater Boston area will pair The Fourth Wall’s unique interdisciplinary approach with the work of visiting artists, many of whom will make their Boston debut. The Fourth Wall aims to deepen its connection to the Boston arts scene while sharing the work of other touring artists. With a range of performances including circus acts, Moth-style storytelling, and original one-act plays, The Fourth Wall Presents… will showcase works that defy description and transcend genre.
The inaugural performances of The Fourth Wall Presents… will take place on Friday, November 17 & Saturday, November 18 at the Cambridge Family YMCA. The Fourth Wall will perform Fruit Flies Like a Banana: WORLD TOUR as a double feature each night alongside Edgar Allan, created and performed by the Brooklyn-based company The Coldharts. Described as a “manic lullabye inspired by the childhood and short stories of Edgar Allan Poe,” Edgar Allan has garnered numerous awards across North America since its premiere at the 2013 Twin Cities Horror Festival.
Praise for Edgar Allan:
"Clever, weird, moving and gorgeous on the ears... 'Edgar Allan' is a perfect Fringe play."
- National Post
"This play is my 2015 high-water mark so far - a rolling and demon-haunted dissection of childhood friendship and inevitable jealousy. Best of all it's damn funny when it wants to be."
"Katie Hartman exudes malice even as she beautifully sings her intent… Darkly funny and dangerous"
The inaugural performances of The Fourth Wall Presents… will take place Friday, November 17 & Saturday, November 18, 2017. Subsequent series performance dates TBA. Cambridge YMCA Theatre. 820 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge, MA 02139. Tickets are priced at $20 general admission, $15 students/seniors, $5 children under 12.
